About Our Rogue Writers Retreat at Dragonwood

Experience “getting off the grid” and into the deep woods for a three-night, four-day getaway in Northern California at MMP’s own Rogue Writers Retreat!
Located in the deep forest, you will follow a tree-lined dirt road to a hidden treasure known locally as Dragonwood (#dragonwoodretreat). There you will find a beautiful woodland setting where you can write in peace and solitude. Stay in the A-frame known for four days and three nights while you work on your current novel.
Though very rustic, Dragonwood has many comforts of home: A fully stocked communal kitchen, refrigerator, stove, oven, microwave, coffee pot, and an upstairs guest suite with two double beds, electric lights and places to charge your electronics, all under a redwood tree canopy that’s right outside your window. While the restroom is separate from the main house, located up a small hill, it is equipped with a regular flush toilet and sink with running water.

Free satellite wifi is available for select hours during mornings and evenings..
Dragonwood has all the trees, hiking paths, peace and calm any writer could ask for. Sit by the creek and write in your journal, commune with the critters that share this beautiful 40 acre estate, including “Rad the Peacock” of Instagram fame. Lounge in the communal room and work on your laptop.
Refocus and rejuvenate, dance with your inner muse!
An experience unlike any other, Rogue Writers Retreat will be the ideal location for you to dig deep into your writing, take a break from “civilization” and get to the next level in your project.
Rogue Writers Retreat includes:
*3 nights, 4 days in a comfortable private guest suite with two beds
*A campfire on Night Two (optional)
*Coffee, tea, cocoa, (and an evening glass of wine, if desired)
*Morning and evening communal time with the hosts on the Front Porch (optional)
*One meal (dinner) prepared by a local chef.
*Use of the fully stocked kitchen and shower
Additionally, if you would like guidance on your path as a writer, for an additional $100 you may sign up for three one-hour brainstorming and/or editing sessions with resident author, editor and publisher Cat Spydell and/or various mentors staying at the retreat.
Note: Dragonwood is a very special ecologically contained community. We ask that you ‘leave it as you found it.' We have no laundry facilities (hand-washing garments in the sink is permitted). We are off-grid with limited resources but look forward to sharing our special world with writers from around the world!

☆ Dragonwood Retreat is located in Philo, CA, Mendocino County, surrounded by wineries, quaint small towns, a beautiful coastline, and redwoods as far as the eye can see. Summer temps range from 100 degrees fahrenheit during the day to 50 degrees at night, but usually temps remain at a pleasant 85 with heat relief indoors, as the A-frame stays cool.
☆ Availability dates: between May 1 and October 1, Thursday through Saturday, or Friday through Sunday. Check in is after 1 pm, check out by noon. Early reservation recommended. Dragonwood is closed to visitors during the winter.
☆ Must love animals! Or at least not mind them. Part of Dragonwood is an animal rescue! If you are not an animal fan, Dragonwood Retreat may not be right for you. The dogs are working dogs and therefore loose on the property (but well behaved), and all other animals are contained. Petting the critters is optional. The upstairs Guest Suite is an animal-free zone.
