About Our Rogue Writers Retreat at Dragonwood
Experience “getting off the grid” and into the deep woods for a three-night, four-day getaway in Northern California at MMP’s own Rogue Writers Retreat!
Located in the deep forest, you will follow a tree-lined dirt road to a hidden treasure known locally as Dragonwood! (online: #dragonwoodretreat). There you will find a beautiful woodland setting to write in peace and solitude. Stay in the A-frame known as Elvenwood for three nights and four days while you work on your book.
Though very rustic, with an ‘indoor/outdoor’ aesthetic, Dragonwood has many comforts of home: A fully stocked communal kitchen, refrigerator, stove, oven, microwave, coffee pot, and an upstairs guest suite with two double beds, electric lights and places to charge your electronics, all under a redwood tree canopy that’s right outside your window. While the restroom is separate from the main house, located up a small hill, there is a regular flushing toilet and sink with running water (not an outhouse!), and a nighttime camp type toilet is available in your room as well so you don’t have to go outside in the still dark night. “Glamping” was never so easy!
Free satellite wifi is available in mornings and evenings, and all the trees, hiking paths, and calm any writer could ask for! Sit by the creek and take notes, commune with the critters of “Pixie Dust Ranch” to refocus: Dale the big red pony, goats, one of the many large friendly white dogs that guard the property, and “Rad the Peacock” of instagram fame will all be part of your escape! An experience unlike any other, Rogue Writers Retreat will be the ideal location for you to dig deep into your writing, take a break from “civilization” and get to the next level in your project.
Rogue Writers Retreat includes:
*3 nights, 4 days in a comfortable private guest suite with two beds
*A campfire on Night Two (optional)
*Coffee, tea, cocoa, (and an evening glass of wine, if desired)
*Morning and evening communal time with the hosts on the Front Porch (optional)
*One dinner meal prepared by a local chef (usually a pasta dish)
*Use of the fully stocked kitchen and shower
Additionally, if you would like guidance on your path as a writer, for an additional $100 you may sign up for three one-hour ‘brain picking’ and/or editing sessions with resident author, editor and publisher Cat Spydell (see Linked In or just Google “Cat Spydell” for more information) and/or various mentors staying at the retreat.
Note: Dragonwood is a very special ecologically contained community. We ask that you ‘leave it as you found it.’ We have special outside accommodations for: Smokers, trash, etc. We have no laundry facilities (hand-washing in the sink is permitted), so it’s best to plan to bring your dirty laundry back home with you. We are off-grid with limited resources but look forward to sharing our special world with writers from around the world!
